Grapefruit Diet
Although this so called New Mayo Clinic Diet has spread like wild fire
and is responsible for millions of pounds in weight loss, the Mayo Clinic
reports it, "did not originate at Mayo Clinic," nor is it, "approved
by Mayo Clinic."
BREAKFAST:
1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice.
2 Eggs any style
2 Slices of bacon
Black coffee or tea, no sugar
LUNCH:
1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice.
Salad and or raw veggies (any dressing, {not low fat or fat free})
Meat (Cooked any way)
DINNER:
1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice.
Meat (cooked any way) Vegetables (any green or red, may be cooked in
butter or Seasoning or a salad as above) Black coffee or tea, no sugar
BEDTIME:
(opt) 8oz Tomato juice or skim milk
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. At any meal you may eat until you are full, and you can not eat anymore.
You must eat the minimum listed at each meal.
2. Do not eliminate anything from the diet, especially don't skip the bacon
at breakfast or omit salads. It is the combination of foods that burn the fat.
3. The grapefruit is important because it acts as a catalyst that starts
the burning process.
4. Cut down on coffee, it affects the insulin balance that hinders the burning
process. Try to limit to one cup each meal.
5. Don't eat between meals, if you eat the combination of food suggested,
you will not get hungry.
6. The diet may eliminate sugars and starches. Fat does not form fat, it helps
burn it, so you can fry food in butter and use butter generously on vegetables.
7. Do not eat desserts, breads and white vegetables of sweet potatoes. You may
double or triple helpings of meat, salads or vegetables. Eat till you are stuffed.
The more you eat the more weight you will lose.
8. There may be no weight loss in the first 4 days, but you may lose 5 pounds on
the 5th day. You may lose 1 and 1/2 pounds every two days until you reach your goal.
9. DRINK EIGHT 8oz GLASSES OF WATER EVERY DAY. 1/2 GALLON.
THIS DIET IS SAID TO BEEN GIVEN TO HEART PATIENTS NEEDING TO LOSE WEIGHT FAST
FOR BY-PASS SURGERY.
ALL SOFT DRINKS NEED TO BE DIET AND CAFFEINE FREE.
YOU MAY NOT HAVE: White onions, potatoes, celery, peas, cereal, carrots, corn,
starchy vegetables, bread, noodles, rice, potato chips, pretzels or fruit or
diet dressing.
YOU MAY HAVE: Red onions, bell peppers, radishes, broccoli, cucumbers, green onions,
leaf spinach, cabbage, tomatoes, green beans, lettuce, chili (no beans) mayonnaise,
any cheese, hot dogs, cole slaw, regular salad dressing, green vegetables, 1tsp nuts,
dill or bread and butter pickles.
IMPORTANT
STAY ON DIET 12 DAYS AND STOP FOR 2 DAYS
Works out great to start on a Monday because you will have every other weekend
off of the diet.
Sacred Heart Medical Diet
This 7-day eating plan can be used as often as you like. If correctly followed, it will clean out your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well-being. After only 7 days of this process, you will begin to feel lighter by at least 10 pounds and possibly 17 pounds, and experience an abundance of energy.
DAY ONE
Any fruit (except bananas). Cantaloupes and watermelon are lower in calories than most other fruits. Eat only soup and fruit today.
DAY TWO
All vegetables. Eat until you are stuffed with fresh raw, cooked or canned veggies. Try to eat green leafy veggies and stay away from dry beans, peas or corn. Eat veggies along with the soup. At dinnertime tonight reward yourself with a big baked potato and butter. Don't eat any fruits through today.
DAY THREE
Eat all the soup, fruit and veggies you want. Do not have a baked potato. If you have eaten as above for three days and not cheated, you should find that you have lost 5-7 pounds.
DAY FOUR
Bananas and skim milk: Eat at least 3 bananas and drink as much milk as you can today, along with the soup. Bananas are high in calories and carbohydrates, as is the milk but on this particular day, your body will need the potassium and carbs. Proteins and calcium to lessen the cravings for sweets.
DAY FIVE
Beef and tomatoes: you may have 10 to 20 ounces of beef and a can of tomatoes, or as many as 6 tomatoes on this day. Eat the soup at least once today.
DAY SIX
Beef and veggies, eat to your heart's content of the beef and veggies today. You can even have 2-3 steaks if you like with green leafy veggies but no baked potato. Be sure to eat the soup at least once today.
DAY SEVEN
Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice and veggies, again, be sure to stuff yourself and eat the soup. You can add cooked veggies to your rice if you wish.
By the end of the 7th day, if you have not cheated on this diet, you should have lost 10 to 17 pounds. If you have lost more than 17 pounds, stay off the diet for two days before resuming the diet again.
This diet is fast. The secret lies within the principle that you will burn more calories than you take in. It will flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well-being. This diet does not lend itself to drinking any alcoholic beverages at any time. Because of the fat build-up in your system. Go off the diet at least 14 hours before any intake of alcohol.
Due to the variety of digestive systems in individuals, this diet will affect everyone differently. After day three, you will have more energy than when you began, if you do not cheat. After being on the diet for several days, you will find that your bowel movements have changed. Eat a cup of bran or fiber. Although you can have black coffee with this diet, you may find that you don't need caffeine after the third day.
The basic fat burning soup can be eaten anytime you feel hungry during the seven days. Eat as much as you wish. Remember the more you eat, the more you will lose. You can eat broiled, boiled or baked chicken instead of the beef. Absolutely no skin on the chicken. If you prefer, you can substitute broiled fish for the beef on only one of the beef days. You need the high protein in the beef for the other days.
Continue on the diet as long as you wish and feel the difference both mentally and physically.
DO NOT - DO NOT
No bread, alcohol, carbonated drinks (including diet drinks). Remember, absolutely no fried foods.
DO - DO - DO - DO
Drink plenty - at least 6 to 8 glasses - of water a day, as well as any combination of the following beverages: black coffee, unsweetened fruit drinks, cranberry juice and skim milk.
This diet comes from the Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital that is used for overweight heart patients in order to lose weight rapidly, usually prior to surgery.
Sacred Heart Soup Recipe
1 or 2 cans of stewed tomatoes
3 plus large green onions
1 large can of beef broth (no fat)
1 pkg. Lipton Soup mix (chicken noodle)
1 bunch of celery
2 cans green beans
2 lbs. Carrots
2 Green Peppers
Season with salt, pepper curry, parsley, if desired, or bouillon, hot or Worcestershire sauce. Cut veggies in small to medium pieces. Cover with water. Boil fast for 10 minutes. Reduce to simmer and continue to cook until veggies are tender.
This soup can be eaten anytime you are hungry during the week. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want. This soup will not add calories. The more you eat, the more you will lose. You may want to fill a thermos in the morning if you will be away during the day.
Drinks:
Unsweetened juices
Tea (also herbal)
Coffee
Cranberry juice
Skim milk
Water, water, water
Subway Diet
Jared Fogle caused a sensation by losing 245 pounds by eating only
Subway sandwiches for a year.
Here's Fogle's Subway recipe for successful weightloss:
Lunch:
A six-inch turkey sub, no mayo, no oil and a bag of baked potato chips.
Dinner:
A foot long veggie sub.
Drinks:
Unlimited diet soda through the day.
Avoid:
Cheese, mayonnaise and oil are a no-no on the subs, and anywhere else.
Improvements:
Breakfast is an essential part of the day and is necessary for more energy
and higher productivity. The Subway Diet would be more healthy if augmented
by a lite morning meal of yogurt or fruit, and skimmed milk for Calcium.

- Through my blogs, I've tried to journal some of my hobbies and interests. I hope you will enjoy reading and looking through my blogs as much as I enjoy putting them together.
About
It was a family tradition that the family always had three meals a day and family members that were present at the time the meal was prepared, all sat down together and shared the meal. Going through my recipes made me start remembering those days. Even after we were adults my family all gathered at my parents home for lunch on Sunday.
There didn't seem to be anything special about those Sunday recipes at that time, but really, each and every one was special simply because it was my Mother's cooking. She was a good cook and always provided the family of six children (and the in-laws and grandchildren as they came along) with good food. I don't remember her ever having a recipe book. Maybe she did. Sometimes she would have a hand written recipe that a good friend or family member had shared with her.
I have been collecting recipes for years. I have many recipe books and also some hand written recipes in my collection. My recipes are from many different sources and some stored on my computer.
Here I will try to list and share some recipes that I have in my collection. I will be trying to list the recipes in some sort of order by categories. I may be frequently editing and moving a recipe from one category to another as I build my recipe pages. Since I didn't keep a record of sources for these recipes I stored on my computer, I cannot list the sources. If I list any recipe that you feel belongs to you and is copyrighted by you, please contact me and give me permission to continue to publish it or if you do not want me to publish it, ask me to remove it from my recipe blog.
